About Rob
Robert Lawrie is a writer, educator and advocate for survivors of poverty and abuse.
He is currently an educator in Broward County, Florida. Born in the South American country of Guyana, Rob’s parents were divorced when he was age three. He migrated to the U.S. at 14 and went from being homeless at age 15, to being a victim of pedophile priests in the Catholic Church scandal that was revealed in the 1990s and continues through today.
Despite many personal challenges, Rob’s commitment to education and his faith have never wavered. In addition to teaching in a public school, he is a third year PhD student, and now writer.
Cloaked in Faith is his first book. It is his hope that this unique story will inspire others to overcome adversity, and to continue to strive for the American Dream.
Rob is available to speak at churches, in schools, and at retreats and conferences across the U.S. and internationally on topics such as overcoming abuse, tackling poverty, suicide prevention and incorporating regular volunteerism as an act of self-care.
